World Water Day promotes saving water to protect life.

WORLD WATER DAY

Today, as we recognize World Water Day, we are reminded of a simple truth: water is life. Yet for far too many people—both around the world and here in Canada and here in Thunder Bay—access to clean, safe drinking water is not guaranteed.

Globally, more than 2 billion people lack reliable access to safe drinking water. Even in a country as prosperous as Canada, thousands of individuals experiencing homelessness or living in vulnerable conditions struggle daily to access something as basic as a bottle of water.

This is where compassion meets action because in Thunder Bay at least 650 people live unhoused with out access to running water.

Through the work of I WAS THIRSTY, work that the donors and volunteers are deeply part of, we see what is possible when a community steps forward. One bottle of water, one person at a time—meeting people where they are, restoring dignity, and addressing an immediate human need.

And that brings me to my message today.

I want to extend a sincere and heartfelt thank you to you. Your generosity is not just a donation—it is a lifeline. It is water placed directly into the hands of someone who needs it most. It is hope delivered without judgment.

Because of your support, hundreds of people in our community will have access to clean drinking water—something many of us take for granted every single day.

On World Water Day, your actions remind us that while the global challenge is immense, local solutions matter. Real impact happens when people care enough to act.

As we prepare to launch I WAS THIRSTY for 2026 in June, today, I am here to say thank you—not just for your generosity, but for your leadership, your compassion, and your commitment to making a difference.

One bottle of water. One person at a time.

Thank you.

Lorne
